Welcome to the 2023 season of girls basketball for grades 3-8!

Assessment and introductory practice: Tuesday, January 3rd

First Game of the season: Tuesday, January 17th

Teams:
Junior Knights- 3rd grade girls will have the opportunity to participate in our junior knights program. Our opponents’ lowest competing age level is 4th or 5th grade; but we would like to get our third graders started in a safe and positive environment. Mrs. Gowling is offering a shortened practice time to work with junior knights on basic beginning skills. If your child demonstrates game readiness they may be invited to stay for a full practice or to play in games.

Girls Team: 4th-8th grade. This team will play 4-5 games in January and February. Practice is two times per week after school; 3:20-4:50 on Tuesday and Thursday.

Co-ed: We are in league with fellow WELS school, St. John’s Neillsville. Their teams are co-ed. We will join with our boys teams to create an A and B team to compete against Neillsville, in a home and away game.

Coaches: Emily Andre and Kelley Gowling are coaching the teams and would be happy to have additional assistance. Students will not be allowed to participate until the permission slip has been signed and returned to the office. There is a $20 fee to cover the cost of officials. Each family will be required to work concessions for one of our two home games. There is a possibility that I may schedule a third home game and that information will come out at a later date.

Boys Basketball has ended for the 2022-2023 school year.

First Practice: Tuesday, November 1st
First Game: Thursday, November 10th

Teams:

Junior Knights
3rd grade boys will be allowed to join B team practices. Our opponents’ lowest competing age level is 4th or 5th grade. If the B team is short on numbers, we will invite 3rd graders that show game readiness to play with the B team. Game readiness is not skill lever, rather an ability to follow directions in practice and stay focused.

B Team
4th-5th grade. This team will play 4-5 games in November and December. Practice is three times per week after school; on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Their practice time is 3:15pm-4:15pm.

A Team
6th-8th grade. This team will play 5-6 games in November and December. Practice is three times per week after school; on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Their practice time is 4:20pm-5:30pm. If the team needs additional players, we will select a B team player(s) based on ability.

Co-ed Season
After the Christmas break, the girl’s season will begin. One of our opponents, St. John’s Neilsville, runs co-ed teams. The boys will have a couple of practices scheduled with the girls to prepare for a home and away game with St. John’s. Those games have not been scheduled yet. There is also a possible boys and girls tournament at Martin Luther College on February 17th-19th.
